  • Clinical practice guideline for management of infantile hemagiomas in :

This guide provides the clinician with required evidence to use propranolol safely.

  • Effect of a low free sugar diet vs Usual Diet on non alcoholic Fatty Liver disease in adolescent Boys: A randomised clinical Trial; in :

JAMA.2019 Jan 22 ; 321(3):256-265

This research’s initial finding offers very important insight into the effect of diet restriction in this population. This though still needs to be validated.

  • Oral versus Intravenous Antibiotics for Bone and Joint infection. In:

N Engl J Med. 2019 Jan31; 380(5):425-436.

In this series, Oral antibiotic use was not inferior to intravenous antibiotics therapy when used during the first 6 weeks for complex orthopaedic infection, as assessed by treatment failure at 1 year. When fully embedded in practice will make a huge impact on the quality of life of patients and also provide huge cost savings. Change in practice however may take time to kick in.

  • Efficacy and safety of EMLA cream for Pain Control Due to Venepuncture in Infants: A meta- analysis. In;

Pediatrics. 2019 Jan; 143(1) pii: peds. 2018-1173

In this meta- analysis, EMLA disd not offer adequate benefit in terms of reduced pain from venepuncture when compared to placebo. Also offered no benefit when compared to Sucrose or breast feeding. It did result in Blanching and raised methemoglobin levels. This should make us think again about its use in these groups of patients.
